Whatever brought you here, the route starts the same way.
Most drivers come to us at one of these moments. Each one is a good time to see what else is out there.
My first policy
New driver, new car or new state. Figure out what coverage you actually need.

Renewal notice looks higher than last year? It may be time to compare.
Compare optionsAdding a vehicle
A second car or a teen driver changes the math. Many insurers offer multi-car pricing.
Add it upAfter a ticket or claim
Every insurer weighs your record differently, so one company's surcharge isn't the final word.
See who covers youThree stops between you and your options.
No sales scripts and no endless forms. Just the details insurers actually look at.
Describe your ride
Vehicle type, model year, your age and your driving record. Seven quick taps, no paperwork.
We find matching providers
Your ZIP code and profile help us identify insurance companies and licensed agents that may write policies in your area.
You compare and decide
Providers reach out with their options. Weigh price, limits and service, then choose, or simply walk away.
Read a policy like a pro.
Every auto policy is built from the same parts. Tap one to see what it does and where it shows up on your declarations page.
Liability
Pays for injuries and property damage you cause to other people in an accident where you're at fault, plus your legal defense if you're sued.
- Required?
- Required in nearly every state
- Good to know
- State minimums are often low. Many drivers choose higher limits to protect their savings and home.
What moves the price you're offered.
Insurers don't all weigh these the same way. That's the whole reason comparing can pay off.
Can push it up
- Recent accidents or violationsAt-fault crashes, speeding tickets and DUIs usually carry surcharges for several years.
- A gap in coverageGoing uninsured, even briefly, can make you look riskier to a new insurer.
- Less driving experienceNewly licensed and younger drivers statistically file more claims.
- Costly-to-repair vehiclesAdvanced sensors, premium parts and high theft rates raise physical damage costs.
- Dense or high-claim areasTraffic volume, weather, theft and repair prices in your ZIP code all play a part.
Can bring it down
- A clean driving recordYears without claims or tickets often unlock safe-driver pricing.
- Continuous coverageStaying insured without interruption is something many insurers reward.
- Bundling and multi-carPutting home, renters or several cars with one company may earn a discount.
- A higher deductibleTaking on more of a claim yourself generally lowers the premium.
- Telematics programsSome insurers price on how you actually drive, using an app or plug-in device.
Where state law permits, insurers may also use a credit-based insurance score. California, Hawaii and Massachusetts prohibit using credit to set auto rates, and other states restrict it.
Keep these within reach.
You won't need any of this to start a request. But when a provider is ready to finalize a policy, having these handy makes it quick.
- Driver's licenseFor every driver you want listed on the policy.
- Vehicle VINThe 17-character number on your dash, door jamb or registration.
- Current policyYour declarations page helps you compare limits side by side.
- Annual mileageA rough estimate of how many miles you drive each year.

Who exactly is AutoGuideCover?
We run a free online referral service. We are not an insurance company, agency or broker. When you submit a request, we pass your details to insurance providers and marketing partners who may be able to offer you coverage, and they contact you directly.
Do I pay anything?
No. Using AutoGuideCover is free and you are never obligated to buy a policy. We are paid by the companies in our network, which never changes the price an insurer charges you.
How quickly will I hear back?
Often the same day, by phone, text or email, depending on what you agree to on the form. Providers typically need to confirm a few details before giving a final price.
Is my credit checked?
Using our site involves no credit check. Some insurers review a credit-based insurance score when they prepare a quote, usually through a soft inquiry that doesn't affect your credit score. Several states ban or limit this practice.
What's the least coverage I can carry?
It depends on your state. Nearly all states require liability insurance, and some add uninsured motorist or personal injury protection. If you finance or lease your car, your lender will usually require collision and comprehensive as well.
Can I stop the calls or texts later?
Yes, any time. Reply STOP to a text, tell a caller to remove you, or email us. Details are in our Communications Consent page.
Can I cancel my current policy mid-term?
Usually. Most insurers refund the unused part of your premium, though some charge a fee. Always have the new policy start before the old one ends so you're never uninsured.
How is my information protected?
Our form is served over an encrypted connection, and we handle personal information as described in our Privacy Policy. You can ask us to stop sharing or delete your information on the Your Privacy Choices page.
